Official PC requirements and installation checks

Steam requirements translated into a conservative pre-installation checklist.

01Published targets

Steam publishes the following targets. They use upscaling and are not promises for maximum settings, every scene or every future build.

02Before troubleshooting

Compare the machine with the live Steam table, install to an SSD with working space, and use the official GPU driver. Change one graphics variable at a time so the result remains attributable.

03Claims intentionally excluded

The official table does not support a guaranteed 1440p, 4K, handheld-PC or Ultra preset recommendation. Those claims remain excluded until they can be tied to dated, reproducible testing.

04Compatibility worksheet

A PC is not “recommended” because one component exceeds the table. Compare every row and use the lowest-matching row as the conservative classification.

Compatibility worksheet
CheckRecord from your PCHow to interpret it
Operating systemWindows edition and 64-bit statusThe published table names Windows 11 64-bit for both targets.
ProcessorExact CPU modelCompare the model, not only the Intel/AMD family or clock speed.
MemoryInstalled and available RAMBoth published targets list 16 GB; background use can reduce what is available.
GraphicsExact GPU and dedicated VRAMMatch both the GPU class and memory amount; do not treat reported shared system memory as equivalent to the dedicated VRAM in Steam’s discrete-GPU examples.
StorageSSD type and free spaceThe listing requires an SSD and 50 GB available; keep additional working space.
Display targetResolution and desired frame rateThe official rows describe 1080p Low/30 or 1080p Medium/60 with upscaling.

05Read the performance targets literally

The minimum row is a 1080p Low, 30 FPS target using upscaling. The recommended row is a 1080p Medium, 60 FPS target using upscaling. Neither row promises native rendering, maximum settings, fixed frame rate in every scene or headroom for 1440p and 4K. A component between the named examples cannot be classified reliably from model numbers alone.

06A controlled first-run test

Record the game version, driver version, resolution, preset, upscaling mode and frame-rate cap. Begin from the published target closest to the machine. Observe the same repeatable section, change one setting, and record the result before changing another. This method cannot replace specialist benchmarks, but it prevents several simultaneous changes from producing an untraceable conclusion.

07Steam Deck and other handheld PCs

Steam currently labels the game “Playable” on Steam Deck. That compatibility category is useful platform-specific evidence, but it is not a fixed frame-rate, image-quality or battery-life guarantee. It also cannot be transferred to ROG Ally, Legion Go or another handheld with different hardware and software. Those devices still require a dated test using the current retail build.

08When the table cannot answer the question

Steam’s two reference rows do not resolve laptop power limits, unusual CPUs, integrated graphics, non-Deck handheld PCs, ultrawide behavior, Linux setups outside Steam Deck, shader compilation behavior or late-game performance. For those cases, seek a dated test using the same device class and current retail build.

This page does not convert absence of evidence into a compatibility promise.

09Installation readiness checklist

Before downloading, confirm Windows Update is complete, the GPU driver comes from the hardware vendor, the target drive is an SSD, free space exceeds the listed requirement and important save/configuration folders are backed up. These steps reduce avoidable variables; they do not guarantee performance or repair unsupported hardware.
